Striker Sam Parkin will be back in training on Thursday and is expected to be fit enough to face Reading on Sunday. The £450,000 summer signing from Swindon has a back problem which he aggravated during the 2-1 against Crewe.

Town's reserve side eventually beat Southampton 5-3 at Portman Road on Monday evening. A hat-trick from Nicky Forster and a brace from Matt Richards secured the win for Town, but goals from Leon Best, Marcelo Tejera and Theo Walcott almost put the result in doubt.

Striker Nicky Forster continues his comeback from injury this evening when the reserves take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park (KO 7pm). Forster, missing since August after undergoing a cartilage operation, scored Town's winner after coming off the bench against Crewe on Saturday.

Disappointing Town fell to a 3-0 defeat at Burnley's Turf Moor. The Blues had started brightly but rarely looked like getting back into the game after James O'Connor's 33rd minute opener, Garreth O'Connor and Chris McCann adding to the Clarets' lead in the second half.

Boss Joe Royle has the rare luxury of being able to field an unchanged side when the Blues travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Tuesday night (KO 7.45pm). The Town squad stayed in the North after Saturday's 2-0 win at Leeds and have been training at Unibond League club Radcliffe Borough.
